ETRMA collaborates on the Automotive Sector Interpretation Guide of the Data Act

26 June 2025

In its Industrial Action Plan for the European automotive sector the European Commission had announced the publication of Guidance on in-vehicle data by the start of application of the Data Act.

ETRMA, together with other associations in the automotive sector, has drafted an "Automotive Sector Interpretation Guide of the Data Act", which reflects useful progress toward a shared understanding to prepare the regulation implementation.

This collaborative work enabled to clarify key definitions and interfaces concerned by the regulation and ETRMA welcomes the inclusion of tyre-specific considerations.

However, without additional measures, the Data Act’s ambition will be undermined. Solutions, such as access to HMI, to collect the user’s consent and digital ID federation to facilitate efficient and secure data sharing in a unified European data space shall be further investigated in the context of a sector-specific regulation.

ETRMA remains committed to ensuring that the implementation of the Data Act enables fair and non-discriminatory access to in-vehicle data and will continue to advocate for clear, enforceable rules that guarantee access to relevant data in real-time, securely and efficiently.
