European tyre and rubber industry against proposed EUDR amendments
The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA) is concerned by the amendments tabled to modify the European Commission’s proposal to extend the transition period of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Should these amendments be supported by the Plenary of the European Parliament, they would open a new phase of uncertainty regarding the content of the Regulation and its timing, merely weeks away from the original date of implementation.
The whole natural rubber ecosystem, from producers, processors and traders to tyre and rubber goods manufacturers in Europe, needs certainty.
The European tyre and rubber industry strongly supports the EUDR's objectives and has made significant investments to ensure sustainable sourcing of EUDR-compliant natural rubber.
However, we further emphasise that only a fair and effective regulatory environment will help ensure compliant natural rubber flows into Europe and that the tyre industry remains a key partner in the EU's broader environmental and deforestation mitigation efforts.
In this context, on 14th November, ETRMA hopes that the European Parliament will deliver the political and legal certainty that European businesses need.
