ETRMA: Provisional political agreement on Data Act highlights urgent need for sectoral regulation
Brussels, 30 June 2023 - The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) welcomes the agreement between the European Parliament and Member States on the Data Act. By making data more accessible to all, this landmark legislation aims to stimulate a competitive data market, opening opportunities for data-driven innovation.
To ensure the development of the full European value chain of connected mobility services, the tyre industry believes that the Data Act urgently needs to be complemented with sectoral regulation to provide clarity on how to implement the principles of the Data Act in the automotive sector.
ETRMA therefore also calls on the European Commission to make in good time its proposal for a Regulation on sector-specific provisions for accessing in-vehicle data, functions, and resources.
The Data Act will provide a much-needed boost to digital service providers, in particular third-party suppliers, while putting the end-user at the heart of service delivery. It is crucial to the further development of smart and sustainable mobility.
